About

Pictures in Powell is an exploration of the visual arts as they appear in Anthony Powell’s twelve novel sequence A Dance to the Music of Time (published between 1951 and 1975).

It was created by Dr Richard Rosenbaum and Barry Pelzner between 2013 and 2017. The original material remains copyright Rosenbaum & Pelzner.

In order to ensure that Pictures in Powell survives as a resource, in 2024 ownership was transferred to the Anthony Powell Society.

Any enquiries should, in the first instance, be sent to webmaster@anthonypowell.org.

I’m presently on my sixth or seventh (at least) reading of Dance since I was introduced to it in the early 1970s – when the last couple of novels were yet to be published. I am delighted to have discovered your blog, which is illuminating my reading to a great and gratifying extent. At present we’re at about the same point in AW. I’ll outpace you very soon, but I’ll continue to appreciate and enjoy your contribution to my enjoyment of Anthony Powell’s great work.

Thank you so much for all your diligent carrying together of backgroundinformation to the novels. Just what I needed! The devonshire reading club [https://dovegreyreader.typepad.com/dovegreyreader_scribbles/2020/01/a-question-of-upbringing-anthony-powell-a-dance-to-the-music-of-time-book-one.html] just started with the series, and I follow along, making use of your excellent blog, which I recommended also to the fellow readers. (Excuse my English – not my native tongue).
